PrEP for HIV Prevention

This module reviews the landscape of HIV and PrEP in the District of Columbia including a discussion on the impact of stigma for patients, partners, and providers. Users of this module will learn about payment assistance programs available to minimize the cost burden of PrEP for patients. This module uses case studies to explore prescribing barriers and solutions.

This module will be a lecture-style format with integrated questions throughout. It will be approximately 1 hour in length and provide 1.0 hours of CME.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the distribution and demographics of HIV both in DC and nationwide
  2. Determine characteristics of who to screen for HIV infection
  3. Outline the indications for prescribing PrEP including the 2019 USPSTF recommendation
  4. Identify common side-effects with PrEP
  5. Explain how HIV stigma can affect prescribing and adherence
